Learn how to assemble an insulated drink tube with the ArcticFusion Tube and add an Inline Connector for quick refills. Step-by-step fitting guide for a custom reservoir hose.
Quick answer
Build your custom hose by first measuring the route from reservoir to bite valve, then cutting the tube once. Install the Inline Connector at a reachable point and finish with the ArcticFusion Tube Kit for insulation.
Why add an Inline Connector before insulating
The Inline Connector lets you disconnect the hose without removing it from your pack, which is useful for refilling or filtering. If you insulate first, the connector may be harder to reach or may interrupt the foam coverage. Plan the connector location before cutting.
When the ArcticFusion Tube alone is enough
If your rides stay above freezing and you never need mid-ride refills, the ArcticFusion Tube Kit provides insulation and a Phaser bite valve without the extra connection point. Adding an Inline Connector introduces a joint that must be seated correctly; skip it if simplicity matters more than quick-disconnect convenience.
Step-by-step assembly
- Measure the hose route: With the reservoir in your pack, run a tape or old tube along the path from the reservoir exit to where you want the bite valve. Add 2–3 inches of slack for head movement. Common mistake: measuring a straight line instead of the actual curved route. Record the measurement before cutting.
- Cut the tube once: Use sharp scissors to cut the tube squarely at your marked length. If adding an Inline Connector, make a second cut at the point where you want the disconnect. Check that both cut ends are clean and round. A square cut prevents leaks at the connector.
- Install the Inline Connector: Push one side of the Inline Connector into each cut end until fully seated. The connector should click or feel snug. Common mistake: forcing the tube over the connector at an angle, which can pinch the inner wall. Test the connection by gently pulling both tube ends.
- Attach the ArcticFusion Tube Kit: Connect the Plug-N-Play end of the ArcticFusion Tube to your reservoir and route the insulated section along your pack. The Phaser bite valve goes at the free end. Make sure the foam insulation covers the full exposed length. Check that the bite valve opens and closes smoothly.
- Leak-test and adjust: Fill the reservoir with water, pressurize gently, and check every joint for drips. If you find a leak, reseat the connection. Adjust the position of the Inline Connector if it sits where you cannot reach it while wearing the pack. A dry joint after squeezing the reservoir is ready to use.
Product facts
- ArcticFusion™ Tube: The ArcticFusion Tube Kit includes a Phaser bite valve and a Plug-N-Play connector, with 50% more foam insulation than competing brands. The extra foam helps delay freezing in the tube, and the Plug-N-Play end connects directly to compatible reservoirs.

ArcticFusion™ Tube - Inline Connector: The Inline Connector is a cut-in upgrade that lets you disconnect the hose with a push of a button. You can leave the hose routed on your pack during refills or when filtering water in the backcountry.
